On a rainy summer night in 1958, an enterprising photographer for the New York Daily News happened to be in a bar on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Much to the patrons' surprise, in walked the Black Stiletto to get dry. The photographer asked for permission to photograph her, and she agreed. She spent some time in the bar—becoming chummy with the other patrons, having a drink, and posing for these famous pictures which circulated around the world for over fifty years.
